Marriage is a milestone in any person’s life. In India, marriage holds a larger-than-life air, for which people go to lengths. For the longest time, families in India have discouraged the very birth of a girl child so as to avoid the expenses that come with “wedding the girl child off”. This has led to several social evils like ill-treatment of the girl child and in the worst instances female infanticide.

To mitigate the rate of female infanticide and to encourage households in Haryana to proceed with the birth of a girl child, the Haryana government has initiated the Haryana Labour Kanyadan Yojana 2021.

About the scheme

The Haryana Labour Department has launched the Haryana Kanyadan Yojana 2021 to offer financial assistance to labourers on the auspicious occasion of the marriage of their daughters. Under the Haryana Kanyadan Yojana, all the registered labourers with the BOCW board will now receive financial assistance of ₹51,000 as Kanya Daan on the wedding day of their daughters.

Applying for the Haryana Labour Kanyadan Yojana 2021

The Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) board has taken the initiative of funding the weddings of underprivileged labourers so that marrying off their daughters is an occasion they look forward to, not dread. For the implementation of the said objective, the board will offer financial assistance of ₹51,000 to registered labourers.

This Kanyadan Yojana benefits will be offered by the Labour Department for the marriage of up to three years of a single-family. The labourers can avail this financial aid as Kanya Daan for their daughter’s marriage and not for their son’s marriage.

This amount offered is in addition to the ₹50,000 offered under the Haryana Labour Welfare Board Marriage Assistance Scheme.

An important note to remember:

The marriage must be registered under the Marriage Registration Act. In addition to this, both the bride and groom must have attained the legal marrying age of India.

Eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of the Kanyadaan Yojana in Haryana

In order to avail the benefits of the scheme, the following criteria must be followed:

  1. The labourer must be registered and should have a minimum of one year of membership.
  2. The marriage card and application form must be certified by a gazetted officer.
  3. The age proof of the bride and groom must be attached with the form. For the bride, the minimum age of marriage is 18 years and the minimum age of marriage for the groom is 21 years.
  4. The marriage Registration certificate is compulsory to avail of the benefits of the scheme.
  5. The applicants must produce a marriage registration certificate along with other documents within 1 year of marriage to avail of the financial benefit offered.

Summing it up

In the long run, with the implementation of this scheme, labourers will not panic at the thought of a girl child being born in the family. With financial assistance provided to the household, families in Haryana can now rest easy when it comes to the marriage of the girl child, and therefore be a lot more welcoming of the new child into their family.

Schemes launched by the state government

The state governments of India are the next important government bodies right after the central government of the country. The state governments constitute 28 states and 8 union territories

India is a democratic and republic country wherein highest authorities and powers are proffered to the central government. For the state government, real executive powers are given to Chief Minister as he is responsible for heading the Council of Ministers. The state governments of India work toward internal security, such as police department, social welfare, public health betterment and other similar state-related issues. The state government of the country earns its employee income from sales tax services, stamp duty services, and from some parts of GST.

The state governments have launched a variety of schemes so far. Some of the examples are as follows:

In Andhra Pradesh, Chandranna Bima Yojana, National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Program, and Smart Pulse Survey have been launched. In Assam, Mass Rapid Transit System has been recently launched. In Maharashtra, Police Pratisaad Ask services and various schemes for the betterment of farmers have been launched. In Karnataka, PM Santwana Harish Yojana, and Housing scheme for Transgenders have been launched. In Uttar Pradesh, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana, Hausla Paushan scheme, and Swadhar Greh yojana have been launched.

The state government of India monitors both rural and urban development. However, it is not feasible for the state government to monitor all rural and urban local government bodies. Thus, based on the provided funding and coverage, rural and urban local entities create development plan whenever required. These government entities work in close association with planning commission and local or regional government sectors and authorities.

Apart from these schemes, the state government also ensures the effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in respective states.
